Interlibrary Loan supplies materials not owned by the UVM Libraries for eligible users.
If a UVM book is checked out and you are an eligible user, you can request it via ILL -- PLEASE indicate in the "Notes" field that "UVM owns this book, but someone else has checked it out."
Who may use this service
University of Vermont students, staff, and faculty with an unexpired CatCard may use this service.
Unavailable Through ILL
Class textbooks/required material can not be ordered through ILL. Read the policy
Items that typically do not circulate through ILL include: reference sets, whole periodicals sets, software, genealogical materials, test materials, maps, unpublished works, and rare and archival materials. Please contact the ILL staff with questions or read the ILL FAQ.
Interlibrary Loan works best for users with one-time, short-term needs. Asking for a purchase through the ILL interface is considered a suggestion only. Users who need items to be purchased or who need them for long-term use should click the link on the Libraries homepage: recommend a purchase.
How to place a request
Requests must be submitted online through ILLiad. You can log in with your UVM NetID and password here. If you are having trouble with the online form, contact us at 656-2242.
Please supply as much information as possible concerning the material you need.
How long does ILL take
- Material is usually ordered 1-2 business days after the request is received.
- Copies usually arrive in 1-5 business days (they often take only 1 day to arrive!).
- Loans usually arrive in 5-14 business days.
- Material that is difficult to obtain (e.g. media, rare items, etc.) may take longer.
- To check on the status of your request, log in to your ILLiad account here.
When your material arrives
You will be notified by e-mail when your materials arrive. ILL materials that need to be picked up will be held at the Circulation Desk, Bailey/Howe Library.
